With the New York, London, Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks just around the corner, I wanted to look at what you should wear on a road trip.
For many, it’s all about function over fashion but it’s doesn’t have to be that way. While you might need to ditch the boots and heels in favour of some flat driving shoes (I swear by my Gucci slip-ons), you don’t have to sacrifice your style just because you’re driving.
Celebrity stylist Alex Longmore has taken inspiration from some of the most fashion-forward cities in the world to create these fantastic illustrations showing what you should pack when visiting these amazing places.
Each outfit is as stylish as it is practical but I wanted to look through each from a road trip point of view. You can see all of Alex’s original designs over on the Expedia blog.
While driving in Paris might be a nightmare, it’s a stylish and cool city that’d worth visiting as part of any European road trip. Not only will you get to see iconic sights such as the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower but the shopping is fantastic too.
Alex’s vision for daytime Paris-chic is bold and a little bit rock and roll. Those boots might not be best for driving in though, so opt for some leopard pumps to get you from point A to point B. The boots can come out to play later.
LA is a stop on most people’s USA road trip bucket list so make sure you fit in with the crowd in on-trend athleisure.
Whether you’re exploring the west cost of the USA, have just come from visiting the Grand Canyon or are just hunting for some sunshine, LA is a wonderful place to stop. Make time for a yoga class where you’ll rub shoulders with influencers and celebrities alike.
The look is wonderfully comfortable for driving and yet manages to be effortlessly cool at the same time.
There’s a refined look to this outfit that’s perfect for a lazy stroll around some of the Italian capital city’s most famous sights. The combination of beautiful skirt, sneakers and a denim jacket also makes it perfect for the road tripper.
Comfortable shoes means driving will be a doddle, while the skirt and light blouse will keep you cool on those warm Mediterranean days. The jacket is perfect to take the whole outfit from day to night.
If you love cars, you’ll love Dubai. Everywhere you go, you’ll see expensive supercars. If you want to fit in, you need to dress the part while keeping cool.
This evening look will take you straight from the supercar of your choice (a Koenigsegg is calling my name) to the front row. Whether you’re there for the car culture or the fashion shows, Dubai gives you the perfect excuse to dress up.
While comfort might be key on a road trip, think about dressing for the places your going and taking inspiration from the local style.
